- The old church of Saint Bonifaz in Mainz was destroyed in 1944-1945 by bombings during the second world war. When the war was over a new modern church was built, dedicated on June 21, 1954. The new church got an organ in 1957, built by the firma Gebr. Oberlinger, having three manuals and 42 stops. The last stops were installed in 1963.
- In 1988 Oberlinger renovated the organ, installed a new console and a modern setzer-installation for combinations. In 2009 they cleaned the instrument. In 2019 the organ was renovated again, by Freiberg Orgelbau. They renewed the electric action and the combination system, voiced the Pommer 16' from the Hauptwerk to a Bourdon, added a new Cornett 3 fach to the Hauptwerk and replaced the Schalmey 4' from the Schwellwerk by a new Trompette Harmonique.
