- De Mariahilfkirche in München werd gebouwd in de jaren 1831-1839 in neogotische stijl, naar ontwerp van Daniel Ohlmüller. Het gebouw was het eerste neogotische kerkgebouw in de stad. Eind negentiende eeuw werd een groot nieuw orgel gebouwd, dat was ontworpen door Joseph Rheinberger. Helaas ging dit orgel verloren als gevolg van bombardementen in 1944.
- Na de oorlog is de kerk aan de buitenkant in oude stijl herbouwd, maar van binnen in moderne stijl. Gerhard Schmid leverde in 1975 een nieuw hoofdorgel met 70 stemmen.
- In de maanden april tot oktober 2018 zal het orgel worden gerestaureerd.
