In 1769 the organ builders Peter and Nikel Schreiber completed a new two-manual organ for the Sankt Markuskirche in Wittlich. The instrument with clear North German characteristics was completely reconstructed in 1848. Heinrich Wilhelm Breidenfeld removed the Rückpositiv and built a new two-manual organ with 25 stops in the old main case. Almost nothing was taken over from Schreiber's pipework. Heinrich Voltmann restored the organ in 1904, adding some romantic stops. In 1958 the Klais company rebuilt the organ again. A new Rückpositiv in modern design was added. Klais built a new three-manual organ, but re-used a part of the pipework from 1848 and one stop from 1904. In the years 2000/2001 the organ has been restored by Hubert Sandter.
