  • On January 26, 1847, the tower of Luçon Cathedral collapsed due to a heavy storm. The organ was destroyed. During the restoration of the church building, Nicolas Henry from Bordeaux was commissioned to build a new organ. This organ was to have 36 registers, but construction did not proceed as desired, and the commission was withdrawn in 1851. A beautiful organ case in neo-Gothic style was made in 1849-1850 by Desharnoux with carvings by Geoffrey Dechaume. The case was designed by the architect Émile Boeswilwald.
  • A remarkable adventure followed: the organ case was exhibited in Paris in 1853 at the École Impériale des Beaux Arts. Napoléon III donated it hereafter to the cathedral of Carcassonne, and Artistide Cavaillé-Coll was commissioned to build an organ for this church. The design is dated April 30, 1852, and construction lasted until 1856. Its installation in Carcassonne was delayed. César Franck played a concert on the organ in the studios in Paris. However, at the beginning of 1857 the assignment was changed: the organ had to be placed in Luçon cathedral. It was dedicated here on December 23, 1857.
  • In 1899 Louis Debièrre overhauled the organ. Extensive work was carried out in 1967-1968 by the Schwenkedel company. Fifteen stops have been added (a new Echo work and extension of the pedal) and the compass of the pedal has been increased from 27 to 32 notes. On the Positif, a Clairon was placed on the site of the Plein-Jeu, as had originally been there. This Plein Jeu may have been placed in 1899.
