Because the old organ could no longer be played, it was decided in 1780 to have a new organ built for the church of Poperinge by Jean-Joseph Vander Haeghen from Lille. Large parts of the old organ, delivered by Jan van Belle in 1674, were used in its construction. The instrument was modified several times over time. Pieter Van Peteghem rebuilt the organ in 1835/1836, installing an entirely new organ case.
The organ case was replaced by the current one in 1903. Georges Cloetens rebuilt the organ again that year, but now in a more romantic style. This rebuilt was no success, many problems occured with the organ. After the First World War, repairs were carried out by Jules Anneessens to repair war damage. In 1948 Joseph Loncke carried out a rebuilt. The organ was inaugurated again on October 10, 1948 with a concert by Roger Orroi (organist of the church), Albert Van Haute and Norbert Bogaert. According to Loncke's specification, the swell had five stops from 1657 (this must be 1674, work by Jan van Belle).
Under the direction of Jozef Braekmans, the company Schumacher carried out a new reconstruction in the years 2008-2011. The organ has been completely newly built, with new wind chests, keyboards, action and the organ case has also been altered. All the pipework from before 1903 has been reused, as well as large parts of the organ case from 1903. The work was completed on 6 May 2011 with a concert by Ludo Geloen.
