1900 Henry Jones  orgue neuf
1996 Peter D. Collins  transfer

  • In 1900 Henry Jones built an organ for Saint Thomas' Church in Shepherd Bush. This church was decommissioned by the Church of England in 1962, and subsequently used for Greek Orthodox Church celebrations. The name was changed to Saint Nicholas' Greek Orthodox Cathedral. The organ remained in the church, but was hidden from view by wooden partitions, and the wind motor was disconnected. In July 1995 the organ was dismantled by Peter Collins and transported to the workshop for restoration. Consultant on the work was Christopher Kent.
  • During the restoration it became clear that Henry Jones used older material in the construction, the origin of which is unknown. The instrument was assembled in Wokingham at the end of 1995, and the first part (Great and Pedal) could be played during Christmas 1995. Choir and Swell were then installed, so that the complete organ could be put into use at Easter 1996. The organ case has been enlarged in style by Collins, so that it fits well with the organ chamber in Wokingham. The front pipes were decorated in Victorian style by Marc Nobel in 1997. The organ was officially inaugurated in June 1996 with a concert by Geoffrey Morgan.
