- Aristide Cavaillé-Coll supplied a salon organ for Léon-Charles Van den Berghe, Comte de Limminghe (1826-1891) in January 1879, which was placed in the large hall 'La Galerie' of the castle of Petite Gesves. The opus number is 395, which would indicate the year of construction as 1873. According to tradition, the instrument was put into use at the castle on November 18, 1873 with a concert by Charles Marie-Widor. The early history of the organ has not yet been fully elucidated.
- After the death of Léon-Charles Van den Berghe in 1891, the organ was donated in 1893 by his widow, Marie-Louise-Joséphine Van den Berghe-Dumortier, Comtesse de Limminghe (1829-1908) to the Abbaye Bénédictine de Maredret. The organ was not transferred in its entirety: the organ case remained in the castle and is still present there. According to the abbey's archives, the organ had sixteen stops when it was installed. The instrument was probably given a temporary place, because the abbey church was only built later, in the years 1898-1907. The organ was placed in this church by George Cloetens in 1905-1907. He completely rebuilt it and expanded the disposition to 31 registers. Nine stops by Cavaillé-Coll had been preserved.
- According to an old dedication program, the organ in Maredret was dedicated in the new church on November 22, 1903. It was played on this occasion by Alphonse Desmet, Léon Guillaume and Anselme Deprez.
