  • Hobart's Town Hall was built in 1864-1866 according to a design by Henry Hunter. In 1868, the firm of Walker & Sons was commissioned to build a concert organ. It was installed by Jesse Biggs and inaugurated on March 17, 1870. The instrument originally had 29 registers on three manuals and pedal.
  • The organ has been converted and expanded twice. The first time in 1929 by George Fincham & Sons. They installed a free-standing console, converted the organ to pneumatics and expanded it to 44 registers. In 1966-1967 the system was electrified by Walker & Sons, with again a new console and several extensions, including a Positive Division that can be played from any manual. Consultants during this work were Arthur Jones and John Nicholls. The organ was re-opened on March 10, 1967.
