The old church of Alnö dates from the twelfth century, but has been enlarged and converted several times in later centuries. Because the church had become too small, a new wooden church was built in 1861-1863. This building burned down in 1888, and was replaced in the years 1893-1896 by a new stone church, which is still in use. The old church has survived and is still used sporadically for church services and special occasions such as weddings. In 1973 it was reported that there was a harmonium in the church.
