The Minoritenkirche Sankt Salvator in Regensburg is the former church of the Franciscanian monastry. In 1936-1937, a new main organ was built for this church by Steinmeyer, ordered by the NSDAP. Carl Thiel designed the specification of othe organ. The original design had three manuals and pedal, but the Fernwerk and Positiv were not realised. The organ was inaugurated on June 6, 1937.
Eduard Hirnschrodt restored the organ in 1964. He expanded the instrument with some new stops in the Schwellwerk. In 1979, a Rückpositiv was added by Michael Weise. Eberhard Kraus, who played many concerts on the instrument, was consultant during both works.
In the years 2018-2020, a reconstruction has been carried out by Eule Orgelbau, under direction of Norbert Düchtel. The original concept of Steinmeyer was rebuilt, including the Fernwerk and the Chororgel, that is located on a gallery in the northern transept. The organ was re-dedicated in October 2020.
