- The organ of the Centralville United Methodist Church in Lowell, Massachusetts, was built in 1853 by George Stevens & Co. for Saint Anne's Episcopal Church in Lowell. The instrument may be some years older. The original instrument had a larger compass than the current, starting at Contra-G, so with 59 keys on the manuals (GG-f''') and 13 on the pedal (GG-G). It was in use in Saint Anne's until 1884, when a new instrument by Hook & Hastings was installed.
- Samuel B. Goodwin bought the organ and rebuilt it for George E. Metcalf, who had it installed in his house in Vernon Street. Goodwin altered the chests and the compass, expanded the instrument with a new choir division and united some divided stops. The organ that is preserved today is almost completely the instrument as it was rebuilt in 1886.
- In 1910 the organ was sold to the Centralville United Methodist Church. Samuel Goodwin transfered the organ to the new location. He constructed a new case with a new prospect. The organ was dedicated on March 20, 1910. Some stops were not installed at the time, and they never have: the Trumpet 8' of Great, the Bassoon Bass 8'of Swell and the Contra Fagotto 16' of the pedal. The Mixture 3 ranks of Swell was not complete: two choirs were missing, and the stop was in fact a Prestant 2'.
