- In 1878, George Fincham built a small organ with eleven stops for the Cathedral of Saint Peter in Armidale. The instrument was replaced in 1895-1896 by a larger organ, built by the British company Alfred Hunter & Son. Consultant was George Edward Coomber, organist of the church. The organ contains a number of ranks of the old Fincham organ. It arrived in Armidale in April 1896 and was installed in the cathedral by Charles Richardson. George Coomber played the organ during the dedication on May 17, 1896.
- The organ had been preserved in almost the originale state. In 1924 an electric wind blower was installed by the Whitehous Bros. A number of time reparations were carried out. In 1996 the organ was restored by the company Peter D.G. Jewkes Pty.
