The Tonhalle in Zurich was built in the years 1893-1895. Plans for demolition and a new construction could not go ahead because the people of Zurich opposed this. A major renovation project was started in 2013, whereby the building has been modernized and expanded while retaining the old elements. The large organ of the concert hall was demolished in 2017 and sold to the cathedral of Koper in Slovenia, where a pipe organ has not been present for several decades. A new organ for the Tonhalle was built by the Kuhn company in 2020-2021. The organ has been inaugurated on September 23, 2021, with a concert by Christian Schmitt.
