The Rylander Theater in Americus had been out of use for about forty years, but the building's interior had remained intact over the years. After a major restoration, the theater was reopened in 1999 to its former glory. James Thrower donated a theater organ to the theater, opus 5351 of the Möller Company from 1928. The instrument was originally built for the Riviere Theater in Scranton, Pennsylvania, which opened on December 6, 1928. After this theater was converted into the Center Theatre in 1960 the organ was removed. It was subsequently partly set up in Atlanta, at the East Point Theater. The organ was restored and installed in Americus by the Schlueter firm. It has been given the name Frank Sheffield Memorial Organ, named after the theatre's former house organist. His daughter, Anne Hale, donated the money for the restoration of the instrument. It was inaugurated on October 30, 1999 with a concert by Ron Rhode.
