In 1956-1957, the Roethinger company built a new organ for the church of Joan of Arc in Gien. The instrument was inaugurated on March 24, 1957, after which Pierre Cochereau played the inauguration concert. The action was electric and the pipework was in a so-called open arrangement. Already after ten years the organ started to show more and more malfunctions, partly caused by the construction of the mechanism. Under the advice of Marie-Claire Alain, a new organ was built in 1985-1986 by Jean-Georges Koenig, using most of the pipework from 1956. An organ case was designed, the new action was made entirely mechanically and the disposition was adjusted. All the pipe work has been retvoiced. The organ was dedicated on September 26, 1986.
