The 15th-century organ of Angers Cathedral, built by Jean Chabentel and with an organ case by Jean le Flamand, was lost due to a fire in 1451. In 1502 or 1511 Pontus Joussalme built a new organ ordered by Anne of England. Jacques Golleau made a beautiful organ case, which was extended with two 32-foot pedal towers by Olivier Bacrault. In 1533 there was another fire in the church, which severely damaged the organ. The instrument was then restored by Jean Prévost. In 1617 the instrument suffered storm damage. Jacques Giradet repaired it afterwards. The organ was demolished in the eighteenth century (before 1748) and replaced by a completely new instrument.
