The Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore in Bergamo is one of the main attractions of the city. The composer Gaetano Donizetti has been buried in this church. The organ is set up on the gospel side (Grand'Organo, Pedale) and epistle side (Positivo, Recitativo) of the choir. The facades are from the 16th century and once contained an organ by Costanzo Antegnati, which was removed in the 19th century. The current organ was built in 1915 by Carlo Vegezzi Bossi (Bergamo). In 1948 it was expanded, the action was renewed and a new console was installed. This work was carried out by the company Fratelli Ruffatti (Padova) and Emilio Piccinelli (Ponteranica). In 1990-1992 the action was updated to the latest state of the art (including electronic Setzer combinations) by the Ruffatti company.
