- The roman catholic church of Sankt Josef in Zurich from 1914 was renovated in the years 1964-1965. It was then decided to have a new organ built. It was built by the company Metzler & Söhne. The organ has three manuals and pedal, and 38 stops. Metzler was inspired by the organ from Sitzberg in Thurgau from the years 1741-1743 when designing the organ cases. The instrument was dedicated on April 28, 1968. The inauguration concert was played in the afternoon by Anton Heiller. Advisor during the construction was Eugen Rechsteiner, organist of the church.
- The church's previous organ was built in 1920 by Wilhelm Friedrich Schwarz. It was a two-manual pneumatic organ with 32 registers. This organ was dedicated on July 18, 1920. It was demolished in 1964. A small organ was temporarily placed in a room next to the church, and in 1965 a two-manual organ was placed in the gallery as an emergency organ.
- An overhaul was carried out by Metzler in 1996. Nothing has been changed to the organ.
