- The Thomaskirche in Erfurt housed a large organ with 74 stops, built by Walcker in 1934. This was lost because the church building burned down due to bombing in 1945. In 1950 the church was put back into use after rebuilding. Under consultancy of Paul Wutke, a large new organ was designed, which was built by the Schuke company from Potsdam. Schuke delivered the first part of the organ in 1950: the complete Hauptwerk and a Pedalwerk with eight stops. In 1953 the pedal was completed and the organ was expanded with an Oberwerk. Schuke also placed the final three-keyboard console.
- The third manual, the Rückpositiv, was only installed in 1967. It was supplied by Andreas Schuster & Sohn from Zittau. The Rückpositiv also got its own console with one manual. Some reeds have not yet been placed. These were placed in 1978 by Schuke, whereby the organ was also completely overhauled.
- The organ was completely overhauled again by Schuke in 1993. In 2011 the same company carried out a new restoration.
