- The organ of the Bergkirche in Schleiz was originally built in 1639-1640 by father and son Jacob and Andreas Schädlich, from the Bohemian city Joachimsthal. The interior of the organ case was replaced in 1777 by a new organ by Johann Gottlob Trampeli. And this organ again was replaced in 1896/1897 by a new organ with pneumatic cone chests, constructed by Ernst Poppe. In 1945 the organ was damaged by a grenade impact on April 15, 1945.
- After the war the instrument was overhauled by Arthur Friedrich. Six stops from the partially destroyed organ of the Stadtkirche were installed in the organ of the Bergkirche. On August 3, 1947, the instrument was put back into use.
- Because the Poppe organ was in a bad condition, the decision was made to replace it with a new organ, that had a better connection with the historic prospect. In 2004 Bernhard Kutter started with the construction of a completely new interior, with twenty-four stops. On October 7, 2007 the organ was inaugurated with a concert by Klaus Rilke.
