In the Église Sainte-Madeleine in Staatsburg there is a two-manual organ positive by Andreas Silbermann. It was built in 1719 for the abbey church of Marmoutier. However, it was never placed in Marmoutier. In 1730, Silbermann delivered it to the Gray sisters in Haguenau, where it was placed in the Couvent Saint-Joseph. After the closure of the monastery, the organ was sold in 1793. It was relocated to the village church of Sessenheim. In 1826 the organ was overhauled by the firm of Stiehr-Mockers. The Tierce has been replaced by a Salicional. Several changes followed in the nineteenth century. In 1907 the organ was removed from the church and two years later it was placed in the Goethe Museum in Sessenheim, owned by Guillaume Gillig.
In 1942 the organ was sold to the museums in Alsace, with the aim of placing it in a new and larger Goethe Museum. Due to the wartime conditions, the instrument remained in storage. In 1959-1960 Ernest Muhleisen carried out a restoration of the keyboard, the pipes and the wind supply. The organ had meanwhile been transferred to Strasbourg. The organ was first stored in the Palais des Rohan, later in a museum depot on the Rue Prechter.
After a restoration by Quentin Blumenroeder in 2011-2012, the organ has been placed on loan in the Chapelle du Sacré-Cœur of the Église Sainte-Madeleine in Strasbourg. This church is close to the Musée des Arts Décoratifs. On December 14, 2012, the organ was put into use here.
