The organ in the church of Hunawihr was originally built around 1767 by Jacques Besançon. The pipework was almost entirely removed from the organ in 1802. In 1803, Joseph Rabiny and François Callinet built a new instrument in the organ case, re-using the remaining pipe work. Claude-Ignace Callinet worked on the organ in the years 1858-1859. Some stops have been modified or replaced. The old prospect pipes were removed in 1917. These were replaced much later by new zinc ones. The organ was overhauled in 1947. The pedal reeds have been replaced by a Flûte 4'. The organ was restored by Gaston Kern in 1989-1990 and returned to the condition of 1859.
