In the years 1718-1720 Gottfried Silbermann built an organ for the Sophienkirche in Dresden. It was inaugurated on November 18, 1720. The organ was on the south side of the church. It has been modified several times over time. Carl Eduard Jehmlich restored the instrument in 1874/1875. It has been placed in a new gallery above the entrance of the church. The organ did not survive the Second World War: on February 13, 1945, the church and organ were destroyed by bombing.
