The church of St Michael on Basinghall Street in London was built after the great fire of 1666 to a design by Christopher Wren. In 1764 an organ was supplied by Thomas Griffin. The instrument had two manuals and pedal and stood on a gallery at the west end of the church. Choir and Swell were played from the same manual. Gray & Davison took over the organ in 1841, and modified it two years later. In 1860 a new organ was built by R. & H. South, but this was probably a rebuild, using the Griffin case. The church building was closed in 1893 and was demolished seven years later. The organ was moved to St Paul's Church, Camden Square. Eventually it ended up in King's College Chapel, Taunton. In 1979/1980 the firm of Walker & Sons built a largely new organ in the case, which is designed in a classical English style.
