In 1682, Jost Friedrich Schaeffer completed an organ for the Sankt Jakobikirche in Rotenburg on the Fulda. It had fifteen stops. In the early eighteenth century it was expanded by three ranks. The organ case was enlarged with two pedal fields. The organ was subsequently modified several times: in 1801 by Johann Wilhelm Schmerbach, in 1881 by Heinrich Möller and in 1931 by August Möller. Dieter Nöske built a new organ in the old cases in 1962, in which the still existing historical pipework was given a place again. The pedal fields have been removed. The organ was rebuilt by Nöske in 1989.
