- The monastery church in Birnau received an organ for the first time in 1750, built by Johann Georg Aichgasser. This instrument served until 1824, after which it was sold to the Protestant church in Altnau in Switzerland. The church was then closed and remained out of use for a long time. In 1919 Cistercian monks settled in the monastery, who also reopened the church.
- In 1950 Xaver Mönch placed a new organ in the church. When this organ was in desperate need of a restoration, it was decided to replace it with a completely new instrument, better suited to the church interior and also a better quality organ. The company Mönch & Prachtel supplied this instrument, which was festively inaugurated on September 8, 1991. Consultants were Siegfried Hildenbrand, organist in Sankt-Gallen, Switzerland, and Anton Johannes Schmid, organist in Überlingen. Both played the organ during the commissioning, after which an organ concert was given at 5 pm by Gerhard Breinlinger, organist in Meersburg.
