- The organ in Villefrance-de-Rouergue is very old. An organ had previously been present in the church, with certainty since 1426. The current organ was initially built in the years 1506-1508 by Castel de Muret. The organ had one manual with eight stops, and was installed in the Chapelle Saint-Luce. In 1537 the organ was expanded to twelve registers. In 1626 the instrument was completely rebuilt and enlarged by Claude Guillemin and expanded with a pedal keyboard.
- In the following centuries, the organ was rebuilt and expanded several times. Antoine Boat placed three new registers in 1675. Louis Ducatel placed an echo register in 1720. A major renovation followed in 1809 by Pujol de Montauban. He moved the organ to a gallery on the west side of the nave. The organ case was also modified by him, with the purpose to preserve the visibility of the west window. In 1848-1851 Théodore Puget converted the instrument into a more contemporary two-manual organ with twenty registers.
- From 1983 plans were made for a reconstruction of the old instrument, and possibly the construction of a new organ with the later added material. Ultimately, only a reconstruction was chosen, in which the situation of 1626 was restored. The work was carried out by Pascal Quoirin and was finished in 1999.
