Johann Friedrich Rhode built an organ for the St. Nicholas Church in Danzig in the years 1749-1769. It originally had one manual and pedal, and was expanded around 1788 with a second manual. The organ-maker Kaltschmidt added a third manual in 1866. In 1907 the organ was converted into pneumatic action by Bruno Goebel. In 1977 a major restoration by Emil Hammer and Włodzimierz Truszczyński brought the instrument back to the state of 1788.
