Burgk Castle was the residence of the Counts of Reuß. It is located on a ridge above the river Saale. In 1742 Count Heinrich III had an organ built for the castle chapel by Gottfried Silbermann, replacing an old positive by Caspar Kerll from 1639. The instrument was dedicated at Easter 1743, after an inspection by Johann Gottfried Donati. Despite various renovations and work, the stoplist has never changed. However, in 1860 the temperament was changed to an equal one and a pedal coupler was placed in 1939. The organ was restored in 1982 by Eule.
