- In 1914 Wilhelm Sauer Orgelbau built an organ for Ballater Free Church. In 1929 the church became part of the Church of Scotland. The building was named North Church, to distinguish it from the present Glenmuick Church, which was named South Church. However, in 1938 North Church was decommissioned for church services. The building was used as a meeting place ('Hall') until 1984, when it was converted into a Bed & Breakfast. The organ was sold in 1938 to Uphall Church (Saint Nicholas Kirk), the old parish church in Uphall. This church, formally named Uphall North Church since 1929, is located west of Edinburgh. The building had been renovated in the years 1937/1938.
- As the organ was now in need of restoration, it was decided to replace it. It was saved from demolition by Ian MacNaught, and was carefully restored and reassembled in 1995-1996 at All Saints' Church, Bearsden, near Glasgow, by John Harrington. On 8 September 1996, the organ was dedicated at Bearsden, with a concert by Bernard Porter.
