- The history of the old swallow nest organ in the Marienkirche in Lemgo starts in the sixteenth century. The current organ case was made by the Slegel brothers in the years 1586-1587. The interior was radically renewed in 1612/1613, probably by Fritz Scherer. Over the centuries, the organ underwent various modifications and changes. The case was emptied in 1887. Ernst Klaßmeyer used part of the pipe work for the construction of a new main organ on the west side of the church. The empty case with facade pipes remained in the church.
- The organ was rebuilt by Friedrich Klaßmeyer in the years 1932-1933 under the advice of Christhard Mahrenholz. A major renovation was then carried out by Paul Ott on the advice of Herbert Schulze from 1950, after which the organ was put into use in 1961. Despite all good intentions, they were ultimately not satisfied with the result. In 2009-2010, Rowan West carried out a reconstruction of the work of Scherer from 1613. The entire interior is newly manufactured, with the organ of Scherer taken as an example. Only the front pipes are still original.
