Gebaut von: Gottfried Silbermann (1719) - Opus 9
Gottfried Silbermann built a one-manual organ for the Johanneskirche or Spitalkirche in Freiberg in 1718/1719. The organ was dedicated on July 16, 1719. It is said that the organ case has been designed by Elias Lindner, organist of the Domkirche. Karl Traugott Stöckel carried out a restoration in 1857. He renewed the bellows and the pedal coupler, and tuned the pipes in an equal temperament. In 1938-1939 the organ was transferred to the northern gallery in the Domkirche by Hermann Eule. He lowered the pitch with a semitone to a' = 440 Hz. He also installed pipes for the tone Cis of the lowest octave. In 1996-1997 the organ has been restored by Jehmlich Orgelbau. All alterations from 1857 and 1939 have been retained.
