- In 1975 the Klais company built a new organ for the Saarbrücken basilica Sankt Johann. About a third of the pipework was taken from the previous instrument, also by Klais, from 1933. Klais designed a classical prospect, to match the historic church, taking as an example the Stumm organ of the Sankt Louis-Kirche in Saarbrücken. dr. Theo Klein, organist of the basilica, designed the specification. The character of the organ was focused on Baroque music. The instrument was put into service on October 11, 1975.
- Because in later years the wish arose to make the organ also suitable for romantic organ music, it was decided to have it expanded by the Hugo Mayer company. The main organ itself was virtually kept unchanged, but it was expanded with new organ divisions at other locations in the church, all of which could be played from one console. Above the Marian altar, Mayer built a French-romantic Récit, modeled on the work of Aristide Cavaillé-Coll. The instrument received two manuals and a pedal. Above the altar of Saint Ludwig, Mayer placed an organ with Spanish horizontal trumpets, modeled on the trumpets in Salamanca Cathedral. This Ludwig organ does not have its own console. The new five-manual console of the main organ was fitted with one keyboard for each of these two organs.
