- In 1881 Henry Willis built an organ for Newport in Mommouthshire, which was installed in the Town Hall of Huddersfield in the same year. A major overhaul was carried out in 1956. A new Positive Organ was installed, with a baroque specification and a sound character that differed from the rest of the organ.
- The instrument was restored by Harrison & Harrison in 1980/1981. The Positive from 1956 was replaced by a new Choir Organ. During the restoration, an attempt was made to respect the original Willis sound and restore it where necessary. On March 12, 1981, the organ was put into use again with a concert by Jonathan Bielby.
