Het instrument werd in 1924 uitgebreid en omgebouwd door Hill, Norman & Beard, nadat een nieuwe orgelkas voor het transept aan de kathedraal was geschonken door het stadsbestuur. Het orgel is in 1972 uitgebreid met strijkende registers voor Solo, afkomstig van de orgels van Gloucester Cathedral en Southwell Minster.
