The previous main organ at Saint Thomas Episcopal Church, 1 West 53rd Street at Fifth Avenue in New York, was built in 1913 as opus 205 by Ernest M. Skinner. It was converted and expanded by the Aeolian-Skinner company in 1956, under the supervision of G. Donald Harrison.
In 1966, Gilbert F. Adams installed a new three-stop slider chest for Great with three reeds, including a Trompette in 18th century French style. The organ was revised in 1969 by Gilbert F. Adams. Another revision was carried out in the 1980s by the Mann & Trupiano company.
The Dobson company will build a new organ as Opus 93. The intention is that the instrument will be delivered again in 2018. However, material from Skinner is reused. The Skinner organ was demolished in 2016 and temporarily replaced by an electronic Hauptwerk organ.
