- The baroque former monastery church in Obermarchtal was inaugurated in 1701. Johann Nepomuk Holzhay built an organ on the church's choir in 1778/1779, installed in two organ cases on either side of the choir. The instrument had 24 stops. This organ was 'emptied' in 1900: only the bellows, wind chests and organ cases were preserved.
- Holzhay also supplied a main organ for the church in the years 1782-1784, a three-manual instrument with 41 stop on the west side of the nave. This organ is almost identical in structure to the instrument that Holzhay placed in Weißenau. The instrument has been preserved, but it has undergone quite a number of modifications over time. The organ was restored by Reiser in the years 1958-1961. Walter Supper was the consultant for the work. During this restoration a lot of original material has been replaced, and the sound of the organ has also been adapted to the taste of the time.
- A new restoration was carried out by the Rohlf company in 2012. An attempt was made to restore the original sound character of Holzhey. On October 7, 2012, the organ was put back into use. Johannes Mayr played the organ during the festive church service. The official inaugural concert was given by Ludger Lohmann.
