In 1894, Max März & Sohn was commissioned to build an entirely new organ for the Hofkirche Sankt Michael in Munich. The money for the construction came from the estate of Joseph Rheinberger's late wife. Rheinberger himself was involved in the construction as a consultant. The organ was completed in 1896. It was destroyed in 1944/1945.
