Leonard Lovaert signed a contract in 1856 for the construction of a three-manual organ with pedal for the old baroque church in Eeklo. It took a long time for the organ to be completed. PC de Preter made an organ case with wood carvings by Van Arendonck. During the construction of the organ, the specifications were changed.
In the years 1878-1880, the old church was replaced by a neo-Gothic building designed by Modest de Noyette. The current organ case was probably made in 1883 instead of the old one. K. Smitz is mentioned as the maker of the case. Pierre Schyven rebuilt the organ in 1905. He made new windchests for the new swell and the independent pedal. The case was maintained, but has been deepened. There was also a new mechanical console with three manuals.
In 2009 the organ was restored by Consultare.
