- The National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception was built from 1920 to a design by Eugene F. Kennedy Jr. from Boston. The building is built according to classical principles, but with modern materials. After completion it was the largest Roman Catholic Church in the USA, and the building ranked seventh in the world ranking. The construction lasted many decades. Cardinal Speltman from New York left money after his death for the construction of two organs in the church. The M.P. Möller Organ Company was awarded the contract for construction, and on 25 April 1965 both instruments were solemnly inaugurated.
- The Chancel Organ is set up in two cases, on either side of a three-part Roman window. The Pontifical Trumpet on the Choir Organ of the Gallery Organ can be played via the Swell manual of the Chancel Organ.
- The organ was overhauled in 2000 by Goulding and Wood. They installed two new consoles with four manuals and an electronic switching system.
