- The previous main organ in the Cathédrale of Beauvais was built from 1827-1832 by Marie Pierre Hamel in collaboration with P.J. Cosijn, organ builder of the École Royale in Paris. During construction, much material was taken from the old organ, which was completed in 1532 by the brothers Alexandre and Charles des Oliviers from Lyon. Hamel made a new organ case, but took over the old statues. The instrument was equipped with an Orgue Expressif as fifth keyboard. This work was set up on a separate windchest, and with the help of two pedals mounted above the pedal keyboard, the organist was able to provide the wind for this work. On this keyboard were three reed stops with curious names. The pedal reeds had their own windchest, ranging from counter-F to f°. The pedal was a so-called pedal à ravalement. In 1866 the wind supply was replaced, and the organ got Barkermachines.
- During a restoration in 1929, the organist of the church had the pedal keyboard replaced, the keyboard compass increased to 56 notes, and the layout of the manuals changed. The pedal keyboard was replaced with a normal keyboard. The Orgue Expressif was decommissioned, and in 1932 it was removed. The beautiful instrument, which was praised by various organists for its beautiful sound, did not survive the Second World War.
- On June 6, 7 and 8, 1940, the German air force bombed the city of Beauvais. The cathedral was largely spared, but was badly damaged. However, the enormous air pressure of the explosions damaged the organ beyond repair. Much loose pipe work was then removed and sold by dealers in scrap metal. The case of the organ is still present in the cathedral.
