According to reports in Buenos Aires the main organ of the cathedral is opus 263 by Walcker. However, the instrument does not appear on Eggebrecht's opus list (opus 1 to opus 277). In 1887 the organ was overhauled by Alberto Poggi, because it was almost unplayable. Poggi improved the wind supply, installed new larger bellows and fitted the organ with Barker levers. He also placed a roof over the organ to better protect it from dirt.
