Bâti par: Simon-Pierre Miocque (1786)
The great organ of Saint Pierre Cathedral in Angoulême was built by Simon-Pierre Miocque in the years 1780-1786. It was constructed like a typical French classical organ, with four manuals and 44 stops. In 1822 it was expanded with three stops by Poirot Didier, a pupil of Miocque. A major renovation took place in 1848 by the company Henry from Bordeaux. They rebuilt the organ as a three-manual work with a more romantic stop list. It now had 44 stops again. Significant changes were made again in 1931, when the Puget firm restored the organ. The current instrument was created in 1965, when Beuchet-Debierre, under the advice of Jean Langlais, reconstructed the organ in a more classical form. It received three manuals and 51 stops. The traction is electro-pneumatic.
