  • Karl Joseph Riepp built a new organ for the cathedral in Dijon in the years 1741-1745. The organ had a ravalement (A-contra) on the Pédale, the Grand Orgue and the Positif. In 1787-1789 Jean Richard added some stops and he expanded some mixtures and modified the reeds. It was also slightly modified by François Callinet in 1798 and 1812. During a restoration between 1836 and 1846 by Ducroquet, the Tierces were replaced by flutes and strings. The Récit was given a more romantic specification, and was placed in a swell box. Ducroquet placed a Barker machine for the couplers. The ravalement was removed.
  • A restoration took place in 1955. The Récit Expressif was enlarged by Roethinger, the organ was given an electro-pneumatic action and a modern new keyboard. New Mixtures, Quintes and Tierces were added. Marcel Dupré played the organ on the inaugurational concert. The organ, which was rather messy due to these renovations and interventions, did not form a unity.
  • A major restoration was necessary, and in 1988 the instrument was dismantled and moved to the workshop of the Schmidt company in Kaufbeuren. The - controversial - restoration plans provided for a reconstruction of Grand Orgue and Positif to the condition of 1798, but retaining the romantic Récit Expressif. A fourth keyboard with an echo work would be added. The classical Récit stops also had to be on the third manual. Eventually it became a five-manual organ, the console of which is inspired by the keyboard of the Heilige Geist organ in Ottobeuren, also a creation of Riepp. The Bombardewerk is integrated into the Grand Orgue, but can be activated by an appeal. The organ has a general crescendo pedal. The keyboard compass has been expanded to contra-G. With a special festival on October 6, 7 and 8, 1995, the organ was supposed to be inaugurated again, but this was postponed to March 8, 9 and 10, 1996. At the official inauguration on March 8, 1996, the organ was played by Maurice Clerc, André Isoir and Yves Cuenot.
