- Like most Roman Catholic churches in Friesland, the Sint Martinuskerk in Makkum started as a secret church (schuilkerk). In this church there was an organ, which clearly had Flemish characteristics, and was possibly bought around 1800 from a closed monastery in Belgium. Nothing else is known about the organ.
- In 1861 a new church building was erected. The company Adema transferred the organ. It was expanded with two stops. In 1928 it was decided to replace the organ with a completely new instrument. Under consultancy of C. Huygens, this was supplied by the company Pels from Alkmaar. On June 12, 1929, this organ was dedicated. The bellows were adopted from the old organ. The old organ dismantled by Pels.
- The church building was closed after a final celebration on April 2, 2017. The church was then sold to the General Church. The Pels organ was dismantled and stored by the company Adema.
