The church building of the Vrije Christengemeenschap (Free Christian Community) has been in use by this municipality since the 1930s. It was originally built in 1850 for the Hervormde Gemeente (Dutch Reformed Church). The small church was called Schipperskerkje or Armenkerkje. Originally there was a Van Dam organ in the building, but this was sold to the church in Rottevalle in 1924. The current organ was built in 1819 by Pieter Geerkens, possibly for a private person. It is a secretary organ. Around 1950 it became the property of the Christengemeenschap (Christian Community) in Amsterdam and in 1990 it was transfered to Leeuwarden.
