Johann Michael Hartung was born on February 3, 1708, the son of the organ maker Augustinus Hartung (1677-1739). He lived and worked all his life in Bad Dürkheim, where he continued his father's workshop on 1739. He died on January 13, 1763. His son Johann Philipp Hartung (1750-1806) continued the workshop.
