The Rohlfing company was founded in 1820, when Johann Christian Rohlfing (1798-1867) became a partner of his father-in-law A. Schmid, where he had also been an apprentice. The company was located in Logabirum. In 1845 it was moved to Osnabrück. Most of the company's Dutch organs were built when it was led by the brothers Christian Ludwig (1865-1934) and Albert Anton Eberhard (1866-1933), grandsons of Johann Christian. They were succeeded by Heinrich Rohlfing (1903-1969), who sold the workshop to Matthias Kreienbrink in 1955. He worked as an organ builder under his own name until 1968. Most Rohlfing organs in the province of Groningen were assembled by Dutch companies, including the company Holtman & Leemhuis.
