The Walcker company is one of the oldest organ building companies in Germany. The company started around 1780, when Johann Eberhard Walcker (April 15, 1756 to July 18, 1843) from Cannstatt (near Stuttgart) signed a contract for the repair of an organ in Groszingersheim. The company was located on Lammergasse in Cannstatt until 1842. The first self-built organ dates from 1781 and was made for the Garrison Church in Ludwigsburg (it is now in the Evangelische Kirche in Schwieberdingen). J.E. Walcker built only seven new organs, the largest of which with 25 stops was placed in the Stadtkirche in Cannstatt. His son Eberhard Friedrich, born on July 3, 1794, soon joined the company. In 1817 he started the construction of his first own organ. Georg Joseph Vogler had a great influence on the sound ideas of E.F. Walcker. Because his mother objected to his participation in the company, he started his own business in Ludwigsburg in 1821. A permanent employee was Andreas Laukhuff (1798-1871), father of August, Adolf and Andreas, who started a pipe workshop and later an organ parts factory. The Laukhuff company also still exists. In 1842 Johann Eberhard's company in Cannstatt was dissolved.
