  • The organ building company Hock in Saarlouis has its roots in the instrument shop of Sylvester Hock (1812-1861), who opened a workshop in 1833 in Schonach in the Black Forest. On May 16, 1836, his son Mamert was born. Hock Sr. moved several times, but settled in Saarlouis in 1855. He died in 1861, after which Mamert took over the company. Mamert expanded it, and specialized mainly in Orchestrions and barrel organs. It was not until 1874 that he built the first church organ for the parish church in Saarlouis. Until 1900, the company was mainly known for the beautiful Orchestrions that were built.
  • On September 20, 1874, a son was born, Mamert Hock Jr. Both he and his younger brother Karl later became employees of the company. Mamert Jr. also worked at the workshops of Laukhuff, Link, Klais and Walcker. Mamert Hock Sr. passed away on February 18, 1907. Both brothers Mamert Jr. and Karl continued the business. Mamert Hock Jr. died on 1 June 1943 in a traffic accident in Saargemünd. It marked the end of church organ building.
